I've been searching for HOURS how to resolve this issue:

I am trying to upgrade SQL Server 2008 R2 (Express Edition with advanced services) to SQL SERVER 2014 Standard edition, my first issue was to update the 2008 R2 to Service pack 2 on the first FEATURE RULE TEST, at this time on it's keep saying this:

======================================================================================

Rule Check Result

Rule "SQL Server 2008 R2 Service pack 2 or later is requered for upgrade.: failed.

This SQL Server 2008 R2 features that have been selected to be upgraded to SQL Server 2014 are not at the require service pack. To continue with this upgrade, install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 or lager to the selected instance and the shared features.

=====================================================================================

This is the Configuration Report issue:

Microsoft SQL Server 2014 - System Configuration Check Report

UpgradeFeatureSpecificRules: SQL Server 2014 Setup configuration checks for rules group 'UpgradeFeatureSpecificRules'

    KJRTMUpgradeBlockRule

Checks if the currently selected SQL Server 2008 R2 features to upgrade are at the supported service pack.     Failed     The SQL Server 2008 R2 features that have been selected to be upgraded to SQL Server 2014 are not at the required service pack. To continue with this upgrade, install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 or later to the selected instance and the shared features.

====================================================================================

I try after hours and finally did install the Upgrade Advisor and got not issues, the last choice I was to uninstall the Management Studio because in other upgrade express versions got blocked, but in this new version of SQL Server 2014 I don't see any way out!!!

Thanks.

Hi,

We have microsoft visual studio 2012 ultimate installed on our programmers machines. We also installed SSDT and sql server client tools. Then I and my colleague decided to install SQL Server 2012 Developer edition on our machines so that we can do debugging of our stored procedures. Both of us installed developer edition. but something went wrong in choosing which version I wanted on my machine. When I do

Select @@ version, this is what I get:

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3000.0 (Intel X86)
 Oct 19 2012 13:43:21
 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation
Developer Edition on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (WOW64)

My colleagues is:

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3000.0 (X64)

                Oct 19 2012 13:38:57

                Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation

Developer Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7601: Service Pack 1)

I know that mine is 32 bit developer edition and his is 64 bit edition.

We had to install ODBC DSN for debugging to work. Because mine is 32 bit, it is not working and his works.

My question is:

  1. How can I install 64 bit version of developer edition. Can I upgrade.
  2. If I can't upgrade, then do I need to uninstall 32 bit developer edition. If yes, does it mess up my rest of SSDT, client tools and visual studio 2012.
  3. I am bit hesitant to uninstall, because my work station is needed.
  4. What are other alternates.

Please let me know.

I appreciate your response.

I just purchased a new license for SQL Server 2014 developer edition, and I need to exercise my cross-edition rights to install a copy of SQL Server 2008 R2 developer edition. Will the installation media for 2008R2 accept the license key from 2014?

How to resolve that install both sql server 2005 and 2008R2 in same machine ?

I have installed Sql server 2005 in my machine which has Windows 7  that has successfully installed and working fine.

Coming to point I want to install Sql server 2008 R2 for another project in the same machine,
But when I try to install Sql server 2008 R2  at the time of  final stage the message box displaying with  this Installation Rules “Sql server 2005 Express tools Failed” and "Previous releases of MS Visual Studio 2008 - failed".

So my requirement is I need 2005 and as well as 2008 R2 both are used for different purposes for that how to maintain both versions in single machine?
Is it possible that both should maintain in single machine?

Please suggest me how can I handle this problem. Your valuable suggestion is very helpful to me.

Installing Tools on Clients

Hello,

I am looking to install SQL Server 2012 tools on a dozen or so client computers.  There are two servers set up with everything installed including the client tools.  This issue is going to all the client computers and manually installing the tools in a task that I wish to avoid.  Is there a way to push the client tools from the servers and automatically install it on the clients?

Consistency validation for SQL Server registry keys

$

I cannot get past this support rule when I attempt to install SQL Server 2008 RC0.  When I attempt to drill into the failure the popup states "The SQL Server registry keys from a prior installation cannot be modified.  To continue, see SQL Server Setup documentation about how to fix registry keys."

First off, why would the SQL Server 2008 RC0 install attempt to modify registry keys from a prior installation if I am attempting to install it side-by-side with a prior install of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition?

Second, can anyone point me to the SQL Server Setup documentation that walks me through how to go about fixing these registry keys?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Migration from Lync 2010 sql enterprise to standard

How to degrade Lync associated sql server2008r2 enterprise edition to sql 2008r2 standard edition ?

WHAT??? IT'S ALL JUST GIBBERISH AND I STILL NEED ACTUAL H-E-L-P!!!

$

All of this mumbo-jumbo is gibberish to me.

I received a notification that there was an update. So it updated.  Yup!  I have SIXTEEN (16) DOWNLOADS of the exact same update with different times and several on the same days!!!!!

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 4 (KB2463332) Installation date: ‎6/‎4/‎2014 11:36 PM Installation status: Successful    Update type: Important

I have no idea why or what to do.

Should I delete the older ones, keeping the last one downloaded?  Should I just ignore them and allow them to consume valuable space on my laptop?

I NEVER UNDERSTAND any of the suggested "fixes"; they all require a level of "computer-eez" I shall never acquire, nor do I wish to.  I just want to use the damn thing, not learn to program it! When I look online for help, Microsoft wants a contract number or credit card; THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME to give me info on how to fix THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT!

And if I try to access the download, it wants me to download it again before I can access it!  I have only two options:  download or cancel.  Where the hell is "RUN"??????

If you, ANYBODY, CAN HELP, I'D REALLY APPRECIATE IT!!!

Which file needs faster disk ?

Hi,

my server has 3 SSD disks from different vendor. One disk is faster than others.

I wonder which file (datafile, logfile or tempdb) will benefit the most using that faster disk exclusively.

Any help appreciated.

FixSqlRegistryKey has stopped working

I'm trying to install SQL Server 2014 Express under Windows 7 SP1 x64.

I've previously had SQL Server Express (2012?) installed on this machine, but I've uninstalled it.

I'm getting the crash FixSqlRegistryKey has stopped working during the check for prerequisites.

I've Googled for hours but can't find a solution.

Any help appreciated.

P.S.: Why can't Microsoft fix what is clearly a CRASH in their installer and upload a fixed installer onto their download site.  Is this too much to ask?

SQL Server 2012 LocalDB Silent Install Mode Doesn't Work

I have been unable to get the silent install for SQL Server 2012 LocalDB to work. I'm using the following command:

msiexec /i SqlLocalDB.msi /qn IACCEPTSQLLOCALDBLICENSETERMS=YES

If I remove the /qn, it runs normally - though obviously not silently. Is there something simple I missed, or is this a bug? I've seen this problem posted on CodeProject as well.

Any insights on how to get this working would be really helpful.

Hi there

I have an Windows App (VS 2008 using VB) deployment prerequisite of SQL 2008 Express. I recently installed my App on a Windows 8.1 x64 system and all worked as expected. The only real difference I see is the SQL Express Folder name on the deployment system (Windows 8.1) is "MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS" whereas on my system (Windows 7 x64) the SQL Express Folder name is "MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS" . Can someone explain why the difference?

Thanks

Upgrading SQL Server 2012 to SP2

Hi everyone,

Now that SQL Server 2012 SP2 is out, I'm not sure of the proper install sequence I should follow in order to install this update.

BTW I'm actually using SQL Server 2012 Developer SP1 along with Visual Studio 2010 Professional SP1 + SQL Server Data Tools for VS2010.  Is there any actually known compatibility problems between SQL Server 2012 SP2 with VS2010 SP1?  Same question but with SQL Server Data Tools for VS2010?

Here is what I actually have installed:

SQL Server 2012 Developer + SP1 + CU5 + CU7 + CU8

SQL Server 2012 SP1 Feature Pack
            - System CLR Types for SQL Server 2012                 version 10.51.2500.0
            - SQL Server 2012 Data-Tier App Framework           version 11.1.2902.0
            - SQL Server 2012 T-SQL Language Service             version 11.1.3000.0
            - SQL Server Report Builder 3 for SQL Server 2012  version 11.1.3000.0
            - SQL Server 2012 Shared Management Objects     version 11.1.3000.0
            - SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB                         version 11.1.3401.0

Already installed by SP1 upgrade pack:
            - SQL Server 2012 T-SQL Compiler Service              version 11.1.3401.0
            - SQL Server 2012 T-SQL ScriptDom                        version 11.1.3000.0

SQL Server Data Tools for Visual Studio 2010         version 10.3.31009.2
Pre-requisites for SSDT                                               version 11.1.3000.0

  1- Preparing to upgrade:
      Anything I should uninstall first?

  2- Upgrade SQL Server 2012 to SP2
Now what I found as updates are the following:

SQL Server 2012 SP2
http://www.microsoft.com/fr-FR/download/details.aspx?id=43340&WT.mc_id=Blog_SQL_Announce_DI
SQL Server 2012 SP2 Features Pack
http://www.microsoft.com/fr-FR/download/details.aspx?id=43339
SQL Server 2012 SP2 CU1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2976982/en-us

      I also found this patch:

FIX: Data corruption occurs in clustered index when you run online index rebuild
in SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2014

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2969896/en-us

Any other updates I should install?  Anyone listed here I should not install?

Hope to hear from someone,

Stéphane

Moving from 2012 to 2008

Hi,

We need to move all our reports, SSIS packages and DB components which are now in SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2008. Is this possible?

We are not downgrading our server(2012) but rather moving into a different server(2008)

We have not used any of the new features in our DB Components or reports or packages.
